This is an unboxing and first impressions video of the HP Mini 1000. It runs Windows XP SP3, and in the configuration I was sent, costs $489 USD directly from HP. It has an Intel 1.6 Ghz Atom CPU, 1 GB of RAM, a 60 GB 4500 RPM hard drive, an SDHC card reader, two USB ports, 802.11 b/g WiFi, Bluetooth, and a 3-cell battery.

    Yes, it’s called the HP Mini Mobile Drive, and you can buy it in 2GB, 4GB, and 8GB sizes…but only if the hard drive option isn’t selected.

    Yes, I do. The HP has better build quality, a nicer screen, makes less noise, and generally is better than the Acer in most ways. However, it tops out at a 60 GB hard drive, so if you need lots of storage, the 160 GB hard drive in the Acer is tough to beat!

    The point? It’s a small, affordable, highly portable laptop that’s still highly functional. What’s the point of any laptop, really? To have a portable computer. These netbooks are just more portable than most.
